An individual who helped in ways that can never be numbered was Howard Fox. Mr. Fox was an assistant professor
at the University of Illinois (and 1ongtime Scout leader). He is also a resident forester and was the manager
of the Sinnissippi Forest for many years. Even after his retirement he had been a volunteer in countless ways.
Much of the development of the camp had been dependent upon the encouragement and support of Mr. Fox. He has
always been available for nature hikes, consultation, forest sawmill visits, and information.
Mr. Fox would come to camp and mark trees that needed to be thinned. The resulting logs provided the lumber
for construction of the
rifle range,
docks at the waterfront, and other projects (latrines, etc.)
In the early 2000s Mr. Fox helped to lay out the Bradley Nature Trail.

Mrs. C. Phillip Miller, daughter of
Governor Lowden,
and mother of Phillip and Warren Miller,
stressed that her sons had a large part in the decision to donate Camp Lowden to Blackhawk Area Council in 1960.
Both boys were Scouts under Mr. Fox.
In the early 1970's Mr. Fox asked Wayne Brooks to close the William Tell Campsite as it was actually off of
camp property. This campsite was located approximately where the storage barn is presently located, but a bit
further back (the barn is on camp property).
Wayne also recalls that Mr. Fox conducted fire drills during this time. He went out in advance and put baking
soda on trees, etc., then had the staff put water on everything that was white.
