Tim's Years on Staff
Memories of Tim's Years on Staff
Tim was the “cool dude” at camp and everybody wanted to be around him, largely because he was just so darn funny.
I will never forget 1982 when the staff was marching down the path to the dining hall, singing “We Are Camp Lowden
Staff.” One time Tim followed the rest of the staff by about five steps and said the words to the song, in a
bewildered, quizzical manner, totally calling attention to himself. It was priceless.
The next year, every time he made an announcement to the campers, he would always “introduce” himself by saying,
“Yes, it’s me, Tim Gaston...” and the rest of us would have to respond (in a flat, drawn out droan),
“...camp commissioner.” This would happen literally at every gathering.
In 1986 he ran the pool, and after every buddy-check he would yell out, “Do you love aquatics?” and we would all
have to yell, “YEAH!!!” I actually had that entered into my high school yearbook under “memorable quotes.”
In the dining hall Tim would lead us in all sorts of crazy songs, and whenever he was introduced to lead a song
we knew we were in for a treat. Years later, I had planned to have Tim lead the guests at my wedding reception
in the singing of “The Unicorn Song.” Unfortunately the reception was behind schedule so that did not take place,
but Tim was ready to go! It would have been great!
