Wayne served on camp staff at Camp Lowden in 1974 as program director and in 1975 as camp director. He was also
a district and council staff member, retiring in August 2008. Mary Anne Rounds recalls,
Wayne and I have worked together for many years.
He was district executive for the Sauk District (Carroll and Jo Daviess Counties, and maybe Whiteside, too)
when I moved here. He became the Finance Director in the early 1980s and Blackhawk Courier advisor in 1987
when I started as editor. He took Cub Scout Trainer Wood Badge in the early- to mid-1980s and has been a
Philmont Training Center faculty member.

Beginning in 1968 a staff paddle was created for each year.
One day Wayne found the paddles in the program room at Camp Lowden and wanted to put them up somewhere visible
inside the main lodge. However there was not enough wall space inside the lodge, and they were
too big for the walls anyway, so in the winter of 1974-1975 they were mounted on the ceiling.
