Staff Reflections - Kenneth J. Buhmeyer
Staff Years: 1954, 1955, 1956
Kitchen Steward, Office Clerk
|
I was on the staff in 1954, 1955, 1956. In 1954 I was the kitchen steward in the new dining hall,
1955 office clerk collecting the money and checking everyone in on Sunday afternoon. Then I
worked weekends the winter of 1955-1956, fixing things up for the summer camp. Everyone bought a canoe paddle and painted a decoration on it [visible in the 1954 staff photo]. Then after summer camp we drove up to Lac du Flambeau in northern Wisconsin for a week of primitive camping and canoeing (you would think we would have had enough camping out after all summer at Lowden!) Best memories: Mr. Mulford [the camp director] was a great mentor and leader. Before teamwork became the corporate buzz, the Lowden staffer had it all down pat! It is a great place for a kid to learn some self reliance and survival skills, which was of help to me years later in southeast Asia. Kenneth J. Buhmeyer |
